Ingredients

For the Rolls:

  • 1 cup milk, heated to 110°F
  • 2 + 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
  • 2 tbsp melted butter, divided
  • 4 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus 2-4 tbsp for kneading

For the Filling:

  • 6 tbsp softened butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 4 tbsp softened butter
  • 4 oz softened cream cheese
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    In a large bowl, combine 1 cup of warm milk, 2 + 1/4 tsp active dry yeast, 1 large egg, 1 tbsp melted butter, 4 tbsp granulated sugar, and 1/2 tsp salt. Whisk to combine. Add 3 cups of all-purpose flour, mixing with a wooden spatula. Gradually add an extra tablespoon of flour until the dough is no longer sticky. Knead the dough for about 3 minutes. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
  2. Make the Cinnamon Filling:
    In a small bowl, mix together 6 tbsp softened butter, 1/4 cup brown sugar, and 1 tbsp ground cinnamon until smooth.
  3. Shape the Rolls:
    Once the dough has risen, lightly dust a clean work surface with flour. Roll the dough into a 17×10-inch rectangle. Spread the cinnamon filling evenly across the dough, then roll it up lengthwise. Using dental floss, cut the rolled dough into 8 equal cinnamon rolls.
  4. Second Rise & Baking:
    Place the rolls into a greased 9×13-inch baking pan. Cover with plastic wrap and let the rolls rise in a warm place for 30 minutes. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Once risen, brush the rolls with the remaining 1 tbsp of melted butter. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown. Let the rolls cool for about 15 minutes.

    While the rolls cool, prepare the cream cheese frosting. In a medium bowl, beat together 4 tbsp softened butter, 4 oz softened cream cheese, and 2 tsp vanilla extract until smooth. Slowly add 1 cup of powdered sugar, beating until combined and fluffy.
