Old-Fashioned Peanut Butter Cake

This moist and fluffy peanut butter cake is packed with rich peanut butter flavor and topped with a smooth, creamy frosting. Perfect for peanut butter lovers and a guaranteed crowd-pleaser for any occasion!

Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk

For the Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Prepare the Cake

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, peanut butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Begin and end with the flour mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cake cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.

2. Make the Frosting

  1. In a large bowl, beat the butter and peanut butter together until smooth and creamy.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, and continue beating until light and fluffy.
  3. Mix in the vanilla extract.

3. Assemble & Serve

  • Spread the frosting over the cooled cake.
  • Slice and serve for a delicious peanut butter treat!

✔️ Buttermilk substitute: If you don’t have buttermilk, mix 1 cup of milk with 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice. Let it sit for 5 minutes before using.
