Korean Ground Beef Bowl – Quick, Flavorful, and Easy

Ingredients

For the Beef:

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 for best flavor)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, minced
  • 2 green onions, chopped (plus extra for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Bowl:

  • 2 cups cooked rice (jasmine, basmati, or brown rice)
  • Optional toppings: sesame seeds, sliced cucumber, kimchi, pickled vegetables
  • Optional veggies: bell peppers, carrots, broccoli, spinach
  • Optional: fried egg on top

Instructions

1. Cook the Rice

Stove Method: Rinse 1 cup of rice until water runs clear. Combine with 2 cups water in a pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes. Let sit 5 minutes, then fluff with a fork.
Rice Cooker: Combine rinsed rice and water; cook according to your rice cooker instructions.
Instant Pot: Combine rinsed rice and water. Cook on high pressure for 3 minutes, then natural release.

2. Prepare the Ground Beef

  1. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula (about 5–7 minutes).
  2. Drain excess fat if necessary. Add minced garlic and ginger; cook 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Stir in soy sauce, sesame oil, and chopped green onions. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 2–3 minutes to let flavors meld.

3. Assemble the Bowl

  1. Spoon a generous portion of cooked rice into a bowl.
  2. Top with the seasoned ground beef.
  3. Add optional vegetables, like steamed broccoli or sliced bell peppers.
  4. Garnish with sesame seeds, extra green onions, kimchi, or a fried egg for extra richness.
