Ingredients

For the Fritters:

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup unsweetened applesauce
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 large apples, diced
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Glaze:

  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • ⅓ cup milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

To Make the Fritters:

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  2. Add the applesauce and milk to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  3. Gently fold in the diced apples.
  4. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large skillet to 375°F.
  5. Scoop 1/3 cup of the batter into the hot oil, gently spreading it to flatten.
  6. Fry the fritters for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown. Use tongs to flip them.
  7. Place the cooked fritters on a cooling rack set over a pan or parchment paper to catch any oil drippings. Continue frying the rest of the batter.

To Make the Glaze:

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Dip each warm fritter into the glaze, allowing the excess to drip off.
  3. Place the glazed fritters back on the cooling rack and let the glaze harden.
